My Review

This is the second book in the Daughters of Darkness series, and my favorite by far. This book is about the second daughter of darkness Jacey Noble. Shadow cursed picks right up where Blood Slaves leaves off. If you have not read Blood Slaves, I recommend that you read it before reading Shadow Cursed because you will definitely be lost. N.L. Hoffman is an awesome writer, so I was so excited to read this book.

I really loved this book. N.L. Hoffman takes paranormal to another level. She has regular paranormal creatures like Vampires and Werewolves, but she also creates these bad ass characters that are unique and awesome. Jacey is a shadow. Without giving away any spoilers, she basically can use the darkness that is around her to do her bidding. Lets just say... I wish I was a shadow!

I love the way Miss Hoffman mixes it up. This book will also have you dying from laughter. Lucifer Jacey and Blake (from Blood Slaves) father. In most books Lucifer is evil, and feared. But, N.L. Hoffman shows us a funny side of him. However, I am sure that evil side is there. After all he is a demon. "Let me tell the story, you're butchering it." Lucifer said appearing in the middle of the island's countertop. He was wearing swim trunks that were bright orange with palm trees. "What's with the swimming gear?" Blake asked, disturbed by rhe up close and personal view of Lucifer. Lucifer smiles. " I am in the middle of an island!" "Oh. WOW. He. Was. Special. "That's a real knee slapper." I told him, rolling my eyes grinning. Lucifer all of a sudden has tanning lotion in his hand. He glances over at Electa. "Would you be a darling and put some on my back?" Electa starts laughing. "Ah, no I think I am okay.." "Fine." He made a grumpy face and threw the lotion behind him, and it disappears before hitting the floor.

I also loved all of  the twist and turns through out this book Miss Hoffman will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the chase of trying to figure out who was doing all of the killing. Miss Hoffman keeps the reader guessing. Characters I thought would never backstab another  character actually does. This book is captivating, and I loved every moment of it. I love that Miss Hoffman introduces us to new characters while including most of the old characters.

Romance, romance, romance, while everything else is going on Miss Hoffman manages to throw in a romance. Everyone knows that  I love romance. There is so much that can be said about this book. From the humor, to the romance, to the mystery and suspense. I am afraid my review will not do this book justice. You will just have to read it for yourself. I really enjoyed this book, and I can not wait for the next book in this series.

Excerpt

My house looked the same as when I left it, but when I got up to the door, I could feel there was a change in the atmosphere. The feeling was unexplainable, but I knew there was someone in the house. My gun was in my harness, so I pulled it out. Slowly, I unlocked the door, kicking it open to startle whoever was waiting inside. Nothing happened. I moved in, looking in all directions. Frowning when I didn’t see anything, I pointed the gun over toward my sofa, where two people sat, looking comfortable. One was a good-looking guy with sandy blond hair and green eyes that appeared to be amused with my entrance.

“Hey! That’s my vacation popcorn, jerk!” I glared at him as he munched from the bowl I just had the night before. Did he pick that shit up off the floor?
The guy grinned and slowly popped another piece in his mouth. “Never had it with chocolate before. It’s not bad.”

Next to him was a woman that was clearly not amused with how we were interacting. She wore her blond hair back in a high ponytail, her makeup done in a way that screamed dominatrix or psycho bitch. She snatched the popcorn bowl away from the man and set it on the table. Her nails were long and sharp, painted blood red. What stood out the most about her was that she was dressed in all black leather. Not something I would do, but since she had a great body, the woman was able to pull it off. With me, I’d be walking funny as I made noises from the leather.

“Put the gun down, Jacey.” She looked down at her nails like she was bored with me already. Hello, I have a gun"

“I don’t follow orders.” I say, shrugging. Damn Trent for not following me home. Men were such assholes sometimes. It was ridiculous!
Nodding, the guy put his feet up on my coffee table, his shit kickers not even close to clean. “Hey, I bought that off a military guy who got it from Germany.” I went over and kicked his boots off. “Respect my shit. You’re worse than a kid.”
The woman looked over at her partner. “Knock it off, you can flirt later.”
“This is flirting? Crap, I am totally doing it wrong. Breaking into homes and eating their food is a much better idea!” I acted like I was impressed with the technique.
“My name is Luca Taborn. This bitch is my partner, Casey Banks, and we are here to bring you in for violating the Shadow code.”
